This is the scenery trail. Five stops share one ridge — the eastern face of the Blue Ridge above Snickers Gap — and the three highest perch between 950 and 1,200 feet with the widest views in the county. The cumulative effect is more 'is this still Virginia?' than anywhere else. Start low at Bluemont Vineyard's 951 tasting room, where on a clear day the DC skyline floats on the horizon, then climb the dirt road to sibling Dirt Farm Brewing, whose stone patio is consistently called one of the best beer views on the trail. Drop back down to Henway Hard Cider's pond-side barn for a cider break on the same family farm, then ride the ridge west to Bear Chase Brewing's mountaintop lawn and finish at Twin Oaks Tavern as the sun drops into the Shenandoah — the broadest single panorama in this entire guide. The cluster trades on the same currency, so the trick is pace: do two for lunch and a third for sunset rather than racing all five. Bring layers (it is genuinely cooler up on the ridge) and a sober driver — these are rural mountain roads where an Uber back is not a plan.
Time your last stop for the golden hour.
At a glance
- Bluemont Vineyard, Dirt Farm, and Twin Oaks all perch on the ridge between 950 and 1,200 feet — among the highest tasting rooms in the county.
- Three of the five — Bluemont Vineyard, Dirt Farm, and Henway Hard Cider — are run by the same Zurschmeide family on the Great Country Farms property.
- Twin Oaks Tavern carries the broadest panorama in this guide: 50-mile Shenandoah Valley views.
Getting around: The ridge roads are switchbacked two-lane and rideshare is scarce up top — bring a designated driver or book a tour, and come on a clear day when the views actually pay off.
