LoCo Farm Brewery Circuit

Virginia's farm-brewery license built the LoCo Ale Trail, and this circuit collects the stops that actually farm the land they pour from. It is not a single walkable cluster — the six are spread across the county — so the right way to read it is as three mini-loops you can stitch together. Start east at Vanish Farmwoods on Black Hops Farm, where a plant-to-pint estate-hop program feeds ~20 taps and a full kitchen, then head north to Wheatland Spring in Waterford: a 30-acre preserved farm that grows its own malting grain, draws farm-well water, and captures native wild yeast — the strongest grain story on the trail, and a VinePair '25 Best American Breweries' pick. Neighbouring Flying Ace Farm in Lovettsville is Loudoun's first farm distillery paired with a full farm brewery, growing Bloody Butcher corn for its award-winning bourbon. Out west, Old 690's ~10-acre Route 690 farm and Notaviva's Blue Ridge slope near the Appalachian Trail round out the hops, before the circuit climbs to Dirt Farm's ~100-acre ridge-top hop yard and barley fields above Bluemont. Farm beer is the through-line; the driving is the catch, so cluster your stops.

At a glance

  • Wheatland Spring grows its own malting grain and captures native wild yeast on-site — a national 'Land Beer' standout.
  • Flying Ace Farm is Loudoun's first farm distillery paired with a full farm brewery, growing its own Bloody Butcher corn.
  • Every stop on this circuit carries Virginia's farm-brewery license and works the land it pours from.

Getting around: This circuit spans the county — these are not next-door stops. Pick two or three in one cluster (Wheatland Spring + Flying Ace in the north, or Old 690 + Notaviva + Dirt Farm out west) rather than chasing all six in a day.
